A TOTAL of 40 bridges around the country have been identified for complete reconstruction over the next two years.

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) CEO Jonathan Moore made this known at the Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) 2018 annual convention at the Novotel in Lami this afternoon.

In Viti Levu alone, he said there were 18 bridges up for tender for complete reconstruction.

Mr Moore also noted that the FRA now had a new design as well for all the crossings in Fiji.

He cited a crossing in the Western Division, which he said had been washed away five times in the six months he had been in the country as FRA CEO, and attributed it to the wrong design that continued to be used.

He said there was no point in following the same design if it continued to be washed away.
