SEVEN teams have been confirmed to participate in the Vodafone Central Futsal League which kicks off next week.
These teams are Northland Tailevu Futsal, Tailevu Naitasiri Futsal, Nasinu Futsal, Rewa Futsal, Navua Futsal, Suva Futsal and Lami Futsal.

Confirming this, Fiji Football Association vice president and futsal league chairman Jitendra Reddy said the competition would start on June 6 which would be played for 14 weeks at Fiji Football Association futsal court in Vatuwaqa.

“The competition will be played for 14 weeks with double round robin basis,’ Reddy said.

Reddy said this was done with the main objective of revamping futsal in the country as well as complementing the growing local interest.

“The long-term objective is to ensure that futsal is sustainable as a football discipline and player development tool for both men and women, “Reddy said.

Reddy however stressed that the league was not only to run after the prize-money but to develop football in Fiji.

“We truly believe in the small-sided game to help develop players. There are many benefits to futsal for youth development,” he said.

“With the small court and lack of walls, players are constantly placed in demanding decision-making situations.”

Reddy said they  had also planned to take the competition all around the country.

“This just a pilot project and we will sure move to western and northern sides,” he added.
