$20m for MPs terminal grant

HONIARA, 17 AUGUST 2018 (SOLOMON STAR) – A total of $20 million (US$2.5 million) will be made available to cater for all Members of Solomon Islands Parliaments’ (MP) terminal grants when parliament dissolves at the end of this year.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Finance and Treasury (MoFT) during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing this week.

At the hearing PAC was told that $20,000,000 will be put aside for terminal grants of MPs to receive, when parliament dissolves on 17th of December this year.

Acting permanent secretary McKinnie Dentana said terminal grant should be prepared by November and all 50 MPs should collect it by 18th of December.

Each MP will receive $400,000 (US$51,000) from the $20 million.

Under the Parliamentary Entitlement Commission, each MP is entitled to $400,000 in terminal grant after completing one term in parliament.

The nation is expected to go to the polls early next year.
