2018 Vodafone Fiji FACT: Blues victory

LAUTOKA coach Kamal Swamy exposed Suva goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau’s weakness, changing the team’s game plan to help the Blues win 1-0 in their opening encounter of the 2018 Vodafone Fiji FACT at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori last night. Swamy said he had studied Tamanisau’s movement during the set-piece play and this allowed Osea Vakatalesau to expose him and he was successful in the 61st minute. Lautoka defender Kolionio Sivoki took a bullet of a free kick from outside the penalty box and Tamanisau tried to tap the ball over the bar, but Vakatalesau made a neat follow through and headed the ball into the net. “The team is delighted with the win over Suva and we were really down after losing the OFC Champions League final against Team Wellington. The energy level had been down and we started with a low profile and the came back strongly in the second half,” Swamy said. “We knew what was the weakness in Simione Tamanisau’s game as throughout the match he never tried to catch any of the balls from the free kicks as he just punched or tapped the ball away. The ball was always there and someone had to follow and I told Osea to follow through and he scored.
