THE national results of the 2018 election will be made known four days after the election.
Fijian Elections Office supervisor of elections Mohammed Saneem said this period would cater for the transportation of the voting papers to Suva, where it would undergo a final count.
Mr Saneem said after this, the final voting results would be released officially.
He called on villagers in Bua to record the voting results from their polling venues which will be made known after 6pm during the election day.
“You can then compare the results from your venues to the national result,” he said.
“The result system is based on an application from locally-developed software.
“With the new result system, voting results need to be entered twice into the system to verify the accuracy of voting results.
“The result system application is developed by Datec Fiji Ltd.”
Mr Saneem said they were holding awareness sessions with voters on election procedures and at the same time identifying the number of polling venues needed in an area.
“We want to ensure that polling venues are accessible to voters,” he said.
“Therefore, if we find the need to have two polling venues in an area we will ensure that this is done.
“The idea is to ensure that every Fijian gets a chance to cast their vote during election day.”
