A STREET-SIDE coconut vendor hopes the 2018-2019 National Budget will have provisions for improved housing opportunities for his family.
Jittu Estate resident David Wilson said the only struggle his family was facing was having to live in a less-than-adequate dwelling.
“I am just hoping my family and I will have better housing where we can live a better life rather than staying in a corrugated iron house,” the 31-year-old bu seller said.
“I have been selling bu for more than 10 years now and it has been a great support for me and my family because the money earned has been putting food on the table and paying my bills.”
The 2017/2018 Budget for the Department of Housing was $34.6million comprising of $1.8million allocated for operating expenditure, $32.1million for capital expenditure and VAT of $0.8 million.
Under the Public Rentals Board (PRB) allocation, the operating grant to subsidize the rental obligations of PRB tenants in all four divisions was $1mllion.
