FIJI is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and, therefore, are legally bound to undertake appropriate legislative, administrative, and other measures for the implementation of all rights for All Children (Article 4 of the UNCRC).

These were the sentiments of Save the Children(SC) Fiji CEO Iris McKenzie while responding to questions from this newspaper on the 2018-2019 budget announcement where $1,256,785 had been allocated to child protection programs involving awareness programs and the implementation of the recommendations from the committee on CRC.

Ms McKenzie said SC Fiji acknowledged that positive steps had been taken to increase the allocation of budget for essential services like health, education and social protection of which children were direct beneficiaries.

“Social protection options are always very good to ensure that we are looking after those in society that most need it, that is, low income earners,” Ms McKenzie said.
