THE Ministry of Fisheries is expecting funding from the 2018-2019 national Budget that will support its sustainability, climate change and mitigation initiatives.
Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau said those initiatives would greatly benefit people living along coastal areas and in maritime zones.
“With the preliminary discussions held on the budget, we are sure that Government is going to give us funding to carry out sustainability, climate change and mitigation initiatives to improve the livelihood of people in the surrounding coastal areas and the maritime islands,” Mr Koroilavesau said.
He added, however, that the ministry would accept and work with whatever funds they were given.
“We will take whatever is given to us but we will manage it better so that the benefit is spread out widely in the islands and within Fiji.”
The Ministry of Fisheries was allocated $18.8million in the 2017-2018 Budget.
