2018/19 Budget: $1m to standardise rubbish bins nationwide

AN allocation of $1million has been made to standardise rubbish bins across the country.

In his 2018-2019 National Budget address, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this allocation was to ensure that Fiji’s efforts to clean up the country was stepped up.

“This will start in Nasinu and it will it be made crystal clear in every community in Fiji where rubbish ought to be put,” he said.

“Not in our drains or our rivers but in these rubbish bins.”

He said a further $1.5millon had been allocated for the collection of rubbish by Government.

“We will now for the first time ever step up rubbish pickups from Monday through to Friday and this will begin in Nasinu.”
