$2.8m lease payout for North pine landowners

PINE landowners in the North received $2.8 million as lease security bonus from Fiji Pine Ltd yesterday.
In handing out the bonus, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told the landowners that this recent payout of $7m to all pine landowners around the country was a result of positive changes done by Government.

Mr Bainimarama, in addressing more than 2000 landowners at Vesidrua Village in Macuata said this payment meant $168 per hectare for landowners.
Speaking in the iTaukei, Mr Bainimarama said positive changes in the pine industry had turned the performance of the company to a successful and fruitful one, which never happened with previous governments.

The pine company, he said was barely breathing when his Government took over so he decided to secure funds to help the company grow.

This growth, Mr Bainimarama said was being enjoyed by landowners and families of the pine industry around the country with the highest payout of lease security bonus as such.

Landowners praised the Government for such a high payout which would benefit many.
