THE 14-year-old boy who was questioned by police for allegedly raping a seven-year-old boy has not been charged.

Divisional police commander North Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Eparama Waqa said the boy was released as investigations continued.

“He has not been charged, but has been questioned by police and our investigations continue into this matter,” he said.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro had earlier confirmed that the alleged incident happened in the North between April and May.

Four days ago, the suspect was questioned at the Taveuni Police Station and was accompanied by his parents.

The alleged matter was reported last week.

“The report was lodged by the turaga ni koro (village headman) which allegedly happened in a village,” Ms Naisoro said.

“The alleged incident occurred between the months of April and May this year. “The victim reported the matter to his teacher who reported it to the turaga ni koro.”
